Tech Tip: Hastags and Retweets

https://twitter.com/ctibiletti/status/978112504483270656

This is the tweet I chose to retweet because I searched #OU4993. I did this hashtag since this was clearly created for my class and I wanted to see what others had done. I retweeted Tib's tweet because it was the first one I saw and I too rarely ever tweet but thought I would do it for this class. I found it funny because he was clearly doing the same assignment I am doing now but 12 hours ago when I should have probably been doing this. I do retweet things fairly often although they mainly have to do with sports or music that interests me. I like twitter the most for its humor.

Tech Tip: Text to Voice

I personally couldn't think of any use for the text to speech option of Google Chrome but that doesn't mean I dislike it. I just am more of a visual person than an auditory person in terms of learning so I don't think hearing it unless I'm reading along with it in my head would truly help me. I do like audiobooks but I feel that this is different because audiobooks tell a story and I wouldn't use this application for my note necessarily. I don't normally use a voice to text application but sometimes if I am driving I will use my phone's Siri to send a text out by saying it aloud. This is useful in this sense because it is quick and easy without distracting me, but in terms of school work I can't ever see this being useful for me.

Google Define Tech Tip

Since I am a huge Eminem fan I decided to use this on a word that he created.
I'm not sure why my screen shot is so blurry but here is the word "Stan" defined and the etymology behind it. I found this function of Google pretty interesting being that I normally don't use Google for this but it was easy and quick so I should start doing this when I'm reading and don't know the meaning of a word.

Google Timer Tech Tip

This week I decided to give the Google Timer another try, as I did use it a couple times last year and wrote a tech tip about it for Mythology Folklore. This time when I used the Google timer I used it to study for a test this week. In my Neuro class I used it to help time myself in writing these possible essay questions. I felt this made sure that I will actually know how to respond and hopefully it will give me more time to think about questions I might not know. I also used it for studying some sections for my DAT test. It is a great way to simply give yourself a heads up on how productive you are being with your work and that is why I like to use it.

Typing Test Tech Tip

Although I have done it before once for last semester, I decided to take the typing test again. I scored a Speed: 59.57WPMAccuracy: 95.90%. I used the Keyhero.com test.

I feel like the speed is not where I would like it, but the accuracy is on point. I do feel the speed is effected somewhat by me being in bed however. I think that the speed of typing is important and I need to improve, but for being in bed which I do a lot of typing for things, that I'm not doing too shabby! I haven't worked on my typing skills since 7th grade in which we had a class that helped us, so I feel that all of my skills are based off of the practice I have had with schoolwork in papers and what not! Overall this test is always entertaining to take and analyze myself.

Tech Tip: Animated Gif

So I literally couldn't think of a Gif that I wanted to make however I have been watching a lot of SpongeBob recently so this inspired me to make this. I used http://gifmaker.me to do so and it was very easy. I might even try to make another Gif next time a group text is heating up and I need something funny to post.

Tech Tip: Canvas Dashboard

This week I decided to mess around with the Canvas Dashboard for my tech tip. I will say I'm glad I figured out how to change the names or "nicknames" of my classes because I had a terrible problem of clicking on the wrong classes due to the numbers being the only thing read. I wish I had known this was a thing before my last semester. I also figured out how to take classes off of my dashboard because some past classes were staying there and I didn't know how to delete them until now as well. I personally really enjoy the dashboard because it is extremely simple and not full of junk. I can't imagine adding anything else because I feel it could get cluttered. The side bar is perfect for shortcuts into certain things and I always use it. Canvas has been the greatest tool for college in my opinion.

I found this image on Flickr.

Tech Tip: Canvas Mobile App

I downloaded the Canvas app to my phone last semester and so I decided to make some comments on how I feel about it for this semester. I love the app in terms of the simplicity in which it takes to get information for different classes. I like getting the notifications but for some classes it overloads your phone with notifications say for a discussion or what not. I would only wish that the app would give updates more close to the time things are actually posted as well. I don't know why anyone who goes to OU wouldn't want this app on their phone though.
